Kirroughtree Land Management Plan
Kirroughtree Land Management Plan navigation
The Kirroughtree Land Management Plan (LMP) comprises four distinct woodlands all located within 5 km of Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway. It is part of Scotland’s national forests and land owned by Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland and managed by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS).
Covering 1,137 ha, Kirroughtree is a popular site with visitors, encompasses several ancient woodlands and, as one of the world class 7 Stanes mountain bike venues, it is one of south Scotland’s principal recreation sites.
FLS are currently revising the LMP. This will define the management prescriptions for the next ten year period and presents the vision for the long-term management of the area. Draft versions of the plan will be published on this webpage and we invite comments and feedback from the public on all of our proposals.
Take a look at the Kirroughtree Story Map for an overview of the woodlands and our plans.
Progress update
Consultation with stakeholders, including the local community, is a requirement of the land management planning process but it is also a valuable opportunity for us to engage with the public, talk about our work, and discover what is important to you.
Community engagement drop in events for the land management plan renewal were held in October 2022 and the online survey is now closed. We would like to thank those who took the time to comment.
This page will be updated frequently but please do not hesitate to request any other information.
